Justice for Human Rights Defenders

In Honduras, human rights defenders and organized communities are threatened, criminalized, attacked, and killed with impunity. Much of the violence is driven by networks of corrupt political and economic interests, oftentimes linked to transnational extractive industries.

At CATRA, our team responds to and documents human rights abuses, and conducts research to contextualize systemic violence within transnational political and economic systems.

In the Bajo Aguán region of Honduras, over 150 land defenders have been assassinated for their work to reclaim their legitimate rights to agrarian reform lands. The vast majority of these killings remain in impunity.
